"Koala Venture" is a partnership agreement between The University of Queensland's Koala Study Program and Rio Tinto Coal Australia's Blair Athol Mine which enables mine site rehabilitation strategies to enhance koala habitat values in central Queensland.
It has evolved from a long-standing arrangement between the partners, which began in 1989. The collaborative study, the longest ever undertaken of koalas and their habitat, aims to provide leadership and innovative solutions for intensive land use in environmentally sensitive circumstances while, at the same time, adding to Australia's knowledge of these unique, native animals.
